Teen Works 2005: Young People and the Internet
Dylan Thomas Centre
Swansea
15th November
9am - 5pm
A full day conference programme organised by
WISE KIDS in partnership with
ITWales. The conference aims to explore young peoples awareness and use of the Internet and mobile phones, and look at current and upcoming trends in this area. It also aims to look at current research and guidelines in this area, and provide relevant examples and strategies that young people and adults can use to take advantage of the Internet and mobile phone technologies, whilst ensuring their personal safety. Through the specialist seminars in the afternoon, topics like child protection issues and moderating online communities will also be covered.
It is hoped that this one-day event, the first of its kind in Wales, will bring together people from the various sectors across Wales and elsewhere, who have a vested interest in this subject area. It is also hoped that the conference will raise the awareness of the need to be proactive in supporting and educating our young people about the many positive opportunities presented by the Internet and related technologies, as well as the need to be critical thinkers online.
The speakers for the event will include Rhian Davies, Assistant Childrens Commissioner for Wales, Josh Dhaliwal, Director of Mobile Youth, Angus Cormie, Director of The Digital Business, Bill Westhead from the Cyberspace Research Unit, University of Central Lancashire and Tamara Littleton, CEO of eModeration. Young people will also be invited to attend and participate in the event.
The conference will target policy makers, youth organisations, young people, parents, teachers, librarians, local authorities, educational bodies, community groups and businesses with an interest in young peoples use of the Internet and mobile phone technologies.
