Welsh IT expert supports new BCS project
A Welsh IT specialist is backing the launch of a new global project with the British Computer Society BCS to encourage more people to work in the IT sector.Beti Williams is one of more than 40 women worldwide taking part in the Global Women in Technology Role Models Initiative, which will profile successful women in IT.
The BCS-supported Doing IT Around the World project is part of a new drive to dispel misconceptions of women in technology, address skills shortages and provide role models around the world for women interested in a career in IT.
Jan Peters, BCS women's forum strategic panel manager, claims: "Encouraging more women into IT and supporting those in the profession is a central element of the work done by the BCS women's forum and group."
Ms Williams is a BCS strategic panel member, a committee member of the BCS South Wales Branch and a director of industry liaison programme ITWales, run by the Department of Computer Science at Swansea and Bangor Universities.
