Praise for Wales' sustainable development strategy

BT has praised Wales for its approach to economic development and the decision to establish a new Climate Change Commission.

According to the Western Mail, a report commissioned by the communications giant states that "sustainable development is reflected in assessments of progress in delivering their economic agenda", with regards to Wales.

Research for BT discovered that Welsh technology firms and other businesses will benefit from the commercial opportunities offered by a greener Wales, as demands for environmental goods and services grow.

Conducted by the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development, the study looked at the sustainable development strategies of each region of England, Wales and Scotland and recommended that best practice is shared more effectively across regional boundaries.

The report calls for a greater focus on the role that information and communications technology can play in sustainable development and better integrated into sectors such as energy and transport.
