Welsh IT firm bucks economic trends

A technology company specialising in travel industry software is celebrating its second acquisition in two months as it continues its rapid expansion.

WalesOnline reports Cwmbran-based Comtec acquired web and technical internet specialist Atolis earlier this month, as it continues to defy gloomy economic forecasts.

The firms, who have been working together for the past eight years already, will use the formal union to deliver new products focusing on affordable and effective technology for the retail trade.

As well as the Atolis deal, Comtec has expanded its staff by over 30 people in the past year despite media speculation the economy is heading towards recession.

Chief executive Simon Powell tells the news source: "The success and growth of Comtec over the last financial year means our order book is at an all time high and the outlook is exceptionally strong across international markets."

Other Welsh IT firms looking to increase staff should consider the range of apprenticeship programmes on offer, the Learning and Skills Council recently urged.
