Soft skills 'most sought after' in ICT industry
The ability to manage change, plan strategically and communicate effectively are the skills most valued by technology enterprises, but they are in short supply.
That is according to new research from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which suggested that companies in Western Europe and North
America are beginning to see competition from emerging markets for their best talent.
Surveying nearly 600 businesses across the world, the EIU found that nearly two thirds expect employee recruitment and retention to become harder in the next three years, with one fifth of those
expecting it to become "significantly harder".
Robin Bew, editorial director at the research company, said: "Organisations need to start thinking creatively about how to resolve the talent shortage issue. Hiring a head-hunter to poach employees
from a rival firm is not a sustainable solution."
A recent survey website CIO insight revealed that some 29 per cent of chief information officers (CIOs) manage another department in addition to IT, a trend that is likely to become more common
because of the logistic and analytical skills required of CIOs.
