Proactive password management could reduce security threats
Organisations that take a proactive approach to password management throughout their entire lifecycle experience fewer security incidents, limited human error and also cut help desk costs within the
enterprise.
That is according to research from Aberdeen, which indicated that those companies able to find the right balance between enhancing security
and enabling staff to do their jobs achieve significant productivity benefits.
"Poor performance at password lifecycle management translates to increased security risk, increased non-compliance risk, increased human error, and additional expense," said Derek Brink,
vice president for IT Security at Aberdeen.
"On a simple but critical task such as password reset, top performance is measured in minutes as opposed to hours by the industry average."
According to Aberdeen, best-in-class organisations view password lifecycle management as a way to manage employee identities and access privileges. The analyst noted the importance of proactively
managing passwords from initial request through to final revocation.
