Expert: User-generated content incredibly important

Businesses in Wales and the rest of the UK have been encouraged to include user-generated content on their websites to help online-shoppers assess products before they buy.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of Web-User, has stressed that those buying online attribute great importance to the feedback of other users, something which has been shown with the rise of internet auction site eBay.

He said: "Any sensible online retailer is asking their buyers for feedback. It is incredible the amount of importance your average consumer places on these sort of things."

The internet magazine news editor added that "people do trust what other people say", but noted that it is important that businesses monitor the content to make sure that it is "not being manipulated by other people or competitors."

eBay has recently announced that sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers on the website in an attempt to ensure that those making comments are more honest rather than retaliatory.
