Survey: Small businesses failing to exploit online benefits
Small businesses are failing to update their websites and make the most of their internet presence to generate sales, according to new research.
Internet design and marketing company Netflare who carried out the survey were "staggered" by its results, which showed that a
large percentage of small business owners are failing to exploit the potential for online sales.
Conducted at the end of last year, the survey found that 23 per cent of small businesses from 19 sectors had not updated their websites since their launch, making the information obsolete or inaccurate.
But in a discovery described as "shocking" by Netflare, only eight per cent of respondents had an e-commerce element to their site.
JonBeal, managing director of Netflare, said: "It is beyond comprehension that small business owners are ignoring one of the fastest-growing sales opportunities there has ever been."
Last month The Forum for Private Business said that small businesses in the UK are "risking losing business" because of their failure to get
up to speed with the internet.
