Bangor gives hope for broadband improvementsEngineers at Bangor University are hoping they can revolutionise the communications industry by dramatically increasing broadband speeds and lowering costs, which could benefit businesses throughout Wales.The Western Mail reported that the scientists hope that their EU-funded prototype, which they will be building in the near future, will help businesses improve their internet speed. They claim that their new technology could cut costs by 75 per cent, which would bring huge dividends to small businesses throughout Wales. Andrew Downie, director of web development company NetBop Technologies in Swansea, praised the development, but added that for businesses it's uploading speeds that really need to be tackled. He told the paper: "If you think about it, when you're accessing a web page the majority of things are going down - you're down loading the picture, the pages. But more and more businesses are finding that uploading speed is slow." Last October the Mid Wales Partnership warned that "black holes" in Wales' broadband network were causing the country to fall behind the rest of the UK.
