Critical Railway Signalling Using Logic to ensure Safer Rail Transport
Wednesday 1st July
6pm to 7.45pm
Faraday Lecture Theatre
Swansea University
Guest Speaker: Simon Chadwick - Head of Research, Westinghouse Rail Systems
As part of the SAT Conference 2009 Twelfth International Conference on Theory and Applications of Satisfiability Testing, we welcome Simon Chadwick who will give an overview of SAT in the railway industry. His presentation will illustrate the processes involved in ensuring the ultimate safety requirements are put in place for the UKs rail network.
The talk will introduce the history of railway signalling and provide an outline of the mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies that are put in place to prevent collisions and derailments.
Simon will explain the role of logic in predicting potential rail disasters and demonstrate that mathematical modelling and satisfiability testing can lead to improved systems.
