EADS seeks R&D project partners
The newly-established research and technology facility of a major advanced technology company will host a unique event this month, aimed at getting businesses and academic institutions in Wales to
work with it on world class R&D projects.
EADS UK Innovation Works represents a major investment in the knowledge economy by the Welsh Assembly Government, whose First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, will attend the event on January
14th 2009 together with EADS Chief Technical Officer, Dr Jean Botti.
The event will formally mark the addition of the Newport site to the EADS Innovation Works, a global network of research and technology laboratories. Newport joins other facilities set up in
world-leading locations of innovation including Bristol, Paris, Munich, Madrid, Moscow and Singapore.
The Newport operation works alongside EADS Defence and Security on the same site, and focuses on the development of secure surveillance and control systems for use at major events such as the
Olympics and the Ryder Cup, and in civil emergencies.
A range of interactive applications of EADS Innovation Works' futuristic technology will be demonstrated on the day, with the main emphasis on the latest systems for protecting the public at large scale
venues such as airports and sporting arenas.
.
The EADS Innovation Works event aims to stimulate interest in the critical areas of technology research and development, and to create opportunities in the region for businesses and academic
institutions in Wales.
Simon Bradley, Vice President, EADS Innovation Works said, "EADS is a key contributor to the knowledge economy, and we have to work with the best available minds and businesses to develop
products that will keep us ahead of the global marketplace."
"EADS Innovation Works wants to take a lead in making that happen, and we hope a wide range of companies and institutions will come and see what we do here - and what other things we could do with their input."
"We want to hear from businesses engaged in markets related to defence and homeland security, companies looking for partnerships for research, Universities with strong research programmes in
appropriate fields, and academics seeking more understanding of research opportunities."
"We're looking for collaborative approaches which will result in a win-win situation for us all, and for Wales," he added.
Anyone interested in attending the event is invited to register at www.cymro.co.uk/eads .
