The Large Hadron Collider LHC:The Biggest Machine in the World!

Built between 50-175m below the French-Swiss border near Geneva, the LHC measures 27km in circumference and is the most powerful particle accelerator ever built. It will collide beams of protons at the unprecedented energy of 14 Tera electron-Volts, creating conditions that existed very soon after the Big Bang.In the first of the new Dolen lecture series, the BA South Wales Branch is pleased to welcome the LHC Project Leader Dr Lyn Evans CBE to speak at Swansea. Lyn is a former student in Physics and an Honorary Fellow of Swansea University and will describe some of the novel features of the machine design as well as some of the latest results.
This event, held by the BA South Wales Branch and in association with The School of Physical Sciences and ITWales at Swansea University, is FREE to attend, however advance booking is required, as numbers are strictly limited.
