College project is world class

An ILT project that was specially developed at Swansea College has proved so popular that it’s now being taken up all over the world.

Staff from the college’s Information and Learning Technology department recently worked on a learning sequence using the open-source software LAMS [Learning Activity Management System], a revolutionary new tool for designing, managing and delivering online collaborative learning activities. The learning sequence, called ‘Your Amazing Brain,’ has proved so popular with the huge worldwide community that it has been included with the new release of LAMS version 2.1.

‘Your Amazing Brain’ uses interactive games to make students aware of the steps they can take to improve their learning and concentration.

“The team of Kate Pearce, who wrote the learning design, and Kristian Besley and Simon James, who created the games, has developed a fantastic online learning experience that can now be used to benefit students around the world,” says Director of ILTS Angelo Conti. “The sequences have also been run with some of Swansea College’s 14-16 year old student groups to great effect.”

The project manager of LAMS, Ernie Ghiglione, has showcased the ‘Your Amazing Brain’ sequence across Europe and has translated it into Spanish for his worldwide demos.

“I ran presentations and demos at various universities using the Swansea College sequences to highlight LAMS virtues,” he says. “They are awesome sequences and help people to really get the concept of LAMS.”
