Welsh firm to offer free hosting service to charities

eLINIA, one of the UK's fastest growing managed service providers, has launched a scheme offering charities free web-hosting.

Until now, eLINIA has offered an ad-hoc free hosting service to charities including The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust who would typically have turned to one of the shared hosting providers to deliver a limited managed service to their web infrastructure. This is the first time the company has attempted to formalise the service with a standardised package.

James Carnie, technical architect at eLINIA, said: "A lot of charities use low end shared hosting providers as a way of keeping infrastructure costs low, but in practice the level of management is low or non-existent and the uptime and security can also be a concern. We're used to working with organisations where downtime is simply not an option and charities that successfully apply for free hosting with us will have exactly the same level of service. We want to support charitable organisations by providing them with 1st Class robust hosting services. All organisations need a web presence to provide information and help attract donations. This is our opportunity to contribute."

The free hosting service, which is also carbon-neutral, will initially be rolled out to local charities in Wales, with plans to extend the offer to third-sector organisations throughout the UK later in the year.

Tom Jones, Chair of the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust said: "Much of our activity is now linked directly to our website and the web is probably the single most important resource for members of the public who want to find out more about the charity and the projects we support. It is important that charity websites offer the same quality and user experience as the best commercial websites and eLINIA helps us do that."

Charity organisations interested in finding out more about eLINIA's charity web hosting initiative should email charities@elinia.com for an application form.
