What next for Web Applications? - Linking the browser to the desktop.
Web applications have become increasingly popular with services such as Google Docs & Spreadsheets, Google Calendar, GMail and others, with the web browser now becoming the platform that
underpins these applications.
But where are web applications heading? This presentation will consider recent developments in web application platforms, how they are becoming richer and more powerful, and ultimately will seek to
completely displace desktop software.
Rhys will discuss the offline Ajax capability of Firefox 3.0, the launch of Adobe Apollo - for Flash applications, Microsoft's recent Silverlight, Sun's JavaFX as well as the presenter's own experiments
with the Web2os platform.
About the speaker
Rhys co-founded SecureTrading Ltd in 1996 and oversaw its growth to a highly specialised internet credit card processing company - leading the UK market. He continued as MD for a further 18
months after the sale of the company to an investment group in early 2000. Rhys has pioneered many internet technologies, including distributed search engines, Java database adaptors, UK,
European and US credit and debit processing systems, and advanced encryption and digital signature implementations.
This event forms part of the ITWales Software Developers programme, which is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.
