Implant technology is on the rise, rapidly diminishing the effects of some neural illnesses, and distinctly increasing the range of abilities of those affected. With such progress inevitably comes potential
for problems.
 Kevin Warwick, Professor of Cybernetics at Reading University, is a
well known and celebrated UK scientist. His research into neural implants has led to him receiving his own implant which linked his nervous system to the internet, making him the first human cyborg.
In his lecture, Professor Warwick will look at the potential for neural implant technology in the short term as a therapeutic device, and in the long term as an enhancement, and will ask whether those
who have such a device in the future will exhibit different moral values to those who have not, and will consider the effects this might have on society.
This event is the Christmas lecture of the British Computer Society, South Wales branch, in association with ITWales, and forms part of the ITWales annual "See the Future...Tomorrow's
Technology
Today" event.
