"Building dependable interactive systems"

Tuesday 5th September
6.30 - 8.30pm (Doors open 6pm)

Robert Recorde Room, Faraday Building
Swansea University

Guest speaker: Professor Harold Thimbleby

Harold Thimbleby is Professor of Computer Science at Swansea University, and a Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award Holder. He joined the Department in 2005, and directs the new Future Interaction Technology Laboratory.

We all interact with technology in our day-to-day routine, often without realising the critical role it plays and the disruption that can be caused by failures. PCs crash frequently, and many devices are too complex to use easily. So how can we build and program interactive systems we can depend on? In this seminar, Harold Thimbleby will explain some of the principles of designing reliable interactive systems. Although the ideas apply to programming interactive devices, the same ideas can be used in web site design, medical device design, handhelds, and so on. The talk will be of interest to anybody involved in programming or working in companies responsible in any way for interactive systems.

This event forms part of the ITWales Software Developers programme and is FREE to attend, however advance booking is required.
