LittleBrother: Bringing biometrics to Wales

LittleBrother Ltd, based in Ystrad Mynach, is a hi-tech security company specialising in biometric technology. While companies are
beginning to realise the importance of safeguarding
their data, the majority do not invest in security measures to control physical access to offices and industrial workplaces.
Stuart Whitby, direct marketing manager at LittleBrother comments, "LittleBrother was established to offer the latest in cutting edge security technology for the business and homeowner. This advanced
security technology embraced with modern IT equipment means that the company is at the forefront of intelligent security, unlike any other company in Wales.
"This gives the company a distinct appeal to key decision makers in organisations that want advanced intelligent security in their respective organisations."
With many businesses falling victim to crime through thefts of data and physical property, LittleBrother's aim was to offer a new alternative to standard security by offering 'James Bond' type security,
which took security levels to a new height.

The company wanted to link computer technology with biometrics to ensure that any company information, data, property etc would be protected at the highest possible level.
LittleBrother provides facial recognition software, anti-virus software and IT hardware. The company prides itself on "protecting people, property and information" and is seen as a solutions provider and
one stop shop for security.
The company also actively offers training in security and data protection courses and specialises in digital CCTV solutions. Future products include a biometric fingerprint briefcase, which will be
targeted at businesspeople and politicians.
Its website offers the latest in security industry news and has an active pan Wales information portal on business security-related grants in order to help new SMEs and other businesses alike.
Based at the new Tredomen Business & Technology Centre, the company currently employs six people, with plans to expand in the immediate future.
ITW: What's unique/outstanding about the products/services you provide?
SW: Biometric technology will revolutionise everyday security such as door entry systems. This technology will allow organisations more control over who accesses premises and areas and at what
time; with advanced security.
Keys can be copied or stolen and so passwords and swipe cards can also be copied or stolen. Fingerprints, irises and other characteristics are unique to the individual. Harnessing this for security
purposes will help aid problems in organisations and allow more control for the powers that be within that organisation.
ITW: What one piece of technology has benefited your company the most?
SW: Biometric technology has put the company in a competitive position. The very principle and idea behind biometric technology has given the company a product and service with a competitive
edge that differentiates LittleBrother in the market place. The 'James Bond' appeal of our products has helped to leverage the brand name of LittleBrother and evidently positive sales and interest.
ITW: What one piece of advice would you give to start up companies in your field? What's been the key to your success?
SW: The key to our success has been the ability to know our suppliers and customers well. It is essential that any organisation within our industry has a good working relationship with their respective
suppliers and have a good structured logistical set-up.
More important is the relationship between organisation and customer. Customer education on our products has been a good source of customer after sales service. There is more to purchasing a
product than simply buying it, as one has to look at the education side of the product so that the customer gets the best value for their respective product/s.
Establishing good customer service is crucial to company and brand image especially in a fast moving industry such as biometrics.
ITW: Where do you see your company going in the future?
LittleBrother will become more solutions based and will be linked with major contracts to large hotels and business organisations. As the popularity and trust in biometrics increases so will company
sales. LittleBrother will look to establish itself as a Welsh market leader in its field and actively promote itself in foreign markets abroad.
