Wireless LAN SourceWireless LAN Source was established during the early part of 2003 as an online store supplying wireless networking kit to enthusiasts and business alike. The Powys-based company supplies and supports wireless networking equipment to two main customer groups; end users who buy products via the online store, and trade customers which include IT resellers, systems integrators and the new generation of wireless broadband providers also known as WISPs.

itwales.com spoke to Jeremy Rollinson, founder and managing director, who comments: "We have developed the business to focus on our specific customer areas. This will ensure steady growth of the business and the reinforcement of our brand as we move forward."


ITW: What's unique/outstanding about the products/services you provide?

JR: For end users of wireless equipment in the home or office environment there are many sources for the supply of equipment, we add value by being able to provide specialist advice on product selection and other services such as network design and installation. Our trade partners are also taking advantage of our wireless networking expertise to add value to their own customer base. Our WISP customers also benefit from our expertise, in addition to this we supply a range of specialist wireless broadband solutions which enable them to build carrier class networks.


ITW: What one piece of technology has benefited your company the most?

JR: The Internet, without question. All our advertising is online and our websites are responsible for all of our referrals so far. The 20th Century was transformed out of all recognition by the combustion engine, the Internet is the combustion engine of the 21st Century.


ITW: What one piece of advice would you give to start up companies in your field?

JR: Make sure you have either a unique product or service. The IT field is extremely competetitive, even more so since the dotcom bubble went pop. Focus on selling, get someone else to do the administration and accounting for you from the earliest opportunity. Running any business is way more complicated than you could imagine, the sheer quantity of form filling and administration required will astound you.


ITW: What's been the key to your success?

JR: Knowledge of the marketplace, being there at the right place and right time and having good contacts.


ITW: Where do you see your company going in the future?

JR: In a word, growth. At present we are in the early days of business development, as the wireless marketplace grows we aim to become recognised as one of the primary wireless solutions providers both within the UK and Europe.
