Outsourced IT services fuel Vincit expansion

By Basheera Khan

Vincit Ltd is an outsourcing service provider whose core business is the provision of ICT management services to micro business and the SME sector. The company was officially launched this year, but as its founder and managing director Iwan Llion explains, it is an expansion on Firmfriends, a company offering services based on the same concept, but on a smaller scale, and operational for the past 6 years.

Numerous small businesses are unable to fund full-time ICT managers, but are becoming more reliant on ICT as a tool to further their own businesses. Many such businesses cannot or would rather not recruit a full-time ICT manager of their own. Looking to fill that gap, Vincit has developed on the model of the outsourced ICT manager.

The primary bouquet of services provided includes system and network management, project management, Internet and network security, and overall consultancy and advice.

Vincit provides a secondary range of services including Internet accessibility and applications, systems and server maintenance and PC and component resale. Lastly, it subcontracts services such as network cabling, telecommunications, software development, Web design and Internet hosting, to its network of preferred partners.

One of the developments fuelling the company expansion is that of fixed IP addressing, which is increasingly seen in the SME sector, as more small businesses buy into broadband. The security aspects surrounding fixed IP addressing are enormous, and as a result, says Llion, Vincit has recruited an Internet security expert to address this and other issues.

Vincit's offerings are based on service level agreements outlining the nature of services which the company will provide to a client, and involves the allocation of an ICT manager to an SME, to be onsite for however many days per week, month, or whatever period the client requires.

Support staff are on call and available for any problems that may occur in between. Support is provided from the company's Pontyclun base via e-mail, remote access using virtual private networking technology, and telephonic support.

In fact, Llion says, the use of VPN technologies is possibly the most important aspect of Vincit's business, as it means that the company's potential client base is not restricted by geography, even though scheduled and emergency on-site visits are part of the service contract.

Llion makes no bones of the fact that the company's operations are based on flexible contracts and cost price supplies. As he explains, "We regard ourselves as ICT managers for our clients. An ICT manager should always find the best equipment for the best possible price, thus to avoid a conflict of interest, all supplies are provided at cost price."

The company is fully bilingual, an important advantage in its long-term plans to expand into Mid and North Wales. For now, Llion says, Vincit aims to concentrate on providing quality core services for the foreseeable future; any diversification will only be introduced as a result of market demand.
