FPB: Small businesses should be consulted on taxThe Forum of Private Business (FPB) has urged the government to ensure that small businesses are placed at the heart of its new tax scheme.HM Treasury announced recently that they would be setting up a new tax forum - designed to tackle the problems of the UK's tax system - which will be made up of less than ten senior representatives from multinational companies. The FPB believes that small firms should be "placed at the heart of any consultation on taxation", rather than being ostracised from the process, as they "suffer most because of the disproportionate tax burden". It notes that although the tax rate paid by larger companies was cut last year, smaller firms' corporation tax has risen from 19 per cent to 21 per cent over the past 12 months. Matt Goodman, the FPB's policy representative, said: "We can accept that the large multinational companies have more complex tax concerns than most small businesses, but the impact that higher taxes have on our members is just as damaging." Conservative leader David Cameron has also called on the government to halt any further increases in taxation of small businesses and entrepreneurs, the Times reported.
