FSB warns against lax expenses proceduresA false expense claim could cost a business both financially and in terms of their reputation, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has said.Stephen Alambritis, a spokesperson for the organisation, said that any loss in turnover due to false expenses claims would be "worrying" for small businesses. He recommended that firms have "good tight expense claim procedures that are fair and firm across the board". Mr Alambritis also warned that lax employment procedures can affect the rest of the business negatively. A recent survey of 3,000 British employees by Travelodge found that they are cheating their bosses out of billions of pounds every years through spurious expense claims, with a typical worker pocketing an extra £17 a week in claims. However, only eight per cent of employees have been caught and fired for fiddling their expenses.
