IT industry 'safe' in economic downturn
In the wake of fears over the current economic climate, analyst Gartner is predicting that the IT industry will avoid the worst of any possible
fallout, and could actually benefit from the circumstances.
Speaking at the company's recent Business Process Management Summit in London, Mark Raskino, vice
president of Gartner, suggested that the slow growth of IT budgets over the last few years compared to the dotcom era has imbued the industry with more stability, business tech website IT Week reports.
According to the website, Mr Raskino told those in attendance: "This time IT is nowhere near the epicentre and it gives IT an opportunity to get its ideas through the door."
He added that IT managers focused on process management and business-enhancing change programmes could benefit from the economic situation.
Earlier in April, IDC forecast that European organisations will continue to increase their budgets for IT security spending, due to growing fears of the
damage that data breaches can cause and the need for a flexible network catering to mobile and remote workers.
It predicted that the market for IT security software, hardware and services across 16 European countries would rise by 17.3 percent over last year, climbing to 12.5 billion (£10 billion).
