About ITWales

ITWales was established in 1993 as the industrial liaison unit of the Department of Computer Science, Swansea University. Initially the primary functions of the programme were to create awareness and understanding of emerging technologies amongst business in Wales and improve local graduate employment opportunities.

However, to date it continues to grow with two multi million pound ESF funded projects, Software Alliance Wales (£13m) which supports innovation and growth through upskilling the ICT and Software sector and Technocamps (£6m) which is encouraging more pupils to study computing and its cognate STEM subjects at higher levels.

ITWales Student and Graduate Placement scheme still plays a pivotal role in linking the technical and organisational requirements of business and industry in Wales to the expertise and skills of Computer Science students.

Our services include:

If your organisation has an IT project that could benefit from an extra pair of hands, or for example have a software development requirement, ITWales could place a student or graduate with the right skill set with you to get the work done. We specialise in placing computing and IT students or graduates into Welsh businesses for specific projects or developments. In partnership with GO Wales, ITWales has successfully run this scheme throughout Wales since 1993.

Software Alliance Wales supports innovation and growth amongst the ICT and Software Sector within the Convergence areas of Wales. It creates a platform for developers across the region to network and share best practice, and to promote Wales as a key driving force in Software Development.

Technocamps is a £6 million project led by Swansea University in partnership wih the Universities of Aberystwyth, Bangor and Glamorgan that provides daily and weekly sessions to young people aged 11-19 on a range of exciting computing-based topics such as programming, robotics, cryptography, animation and much more. Backed by £3.9 million from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, the project delivers a series of outreach programmes to schools, colleges and other educational providers within the convergence areas of Wales, inspiring young people to consider the computing-based topics underpinning the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Technocamps has the long-term goal of encouraging them to pursue careers in an area that will drive enconomic growth in Wales.
